The Roaring Women Story
 My name is Mandie Crawford - and in 2004 I founded Roaring Women in response to a growing need among women who were either opening a new business or already running one - for support, information, education and services.
But it was mostly in response to my belief that business was changing - and women were leading the changes!
If I really think about it, it all started a year earlier in 2003 when after networking extensively I met hundreds of women in business that relied heavily on networking to grow their businesses.
Unfortunately not many of them had the funds for traditional marketing - and I wondered how (other than referring them one at a time) I could get the word 'out there' about their businesses. You see I believed that there was enough business for everyone - but if no one knew about your business - how could you get the customers you needed to prosper?
In my outside the box thinking mode - I approached the Hamilton Spectator newspaper - with distribution of over 100,000 papers daily - and asked them if I could write a column about women in business. The answer was "NO".
Well you guessed it. Several months (and several visits and phone calls) later, I was offered a column for the Monday paper on the "Money" page. The column was named "Hear us Roar". In the town that hosts the Hamilton Tiger Cats Football team this seems appropriate!
A year ( and 52 articles ) later, I had such great feedback from the columns that I began to think about how we could make these articles available to MORE people. The world wide web was new to me - but I began searching for a way we could promote these fabulous businesses on the web. This would also open the door to many businesses who dd not meet the parameters and requirements for the column I was still writing.
I approached a local web designer - and the rest is history - Roaring Women was born!
Since 2003 I have written hundreds of articles, learned a lot about women in business, interviewed thousands and coached hundreds of them - and I can say loved every minute of it.
I am privileged to see inside the lives of women - near and far - and to witness incredible growth, success and connections that I may not otherwise have seen.
And Roaring Women has taken on a life of its own!
It's all I can do to stay ahead of this ship let alone steer it - and the result has been incredible personal and professional growth for me.
My job as the founder visionary is to keep ahead of the trends, learn more than I think my head can hold and open my heart to the needs of all women. In addition I feel it my job to connect them and assist them in growing their businesses with the knowledge I gather along the way.
And this is how I intend to move forward.
We are up to BIG stuff. Our members are the most inspirational, forward and abundant thinking women I have ever met. They support each other in a fashion that shames a highly competitive world. Oh yes, there is enough business for all of us!
My core beliefs:
- There is enough business for everyone
- The world is changing - we get to be a part of the changes
- We are a catalyst for a new world order (in business too)
- Women do business differently - and I am proud of the differences
- We can all succeed at whatever level we choose if we have the support of others who have gone before us
- We don't have to be alone even if we are only a business of one
- We CAN all cross the finish line together
- We all have wisdom to offer - so let's PAY IT FORWARD!
