When I was a little girl, I remember my Dad using the expression "nickel and diming ourselves to death". The Beatles were becoming popular, Twiggy was in vogue, my allowance was ten cents a week and I still had a pixie cut!

Over the years I heard that expression may times when my mother and father were shopping, or talking about finances. My understanding was that pinching pennies could put one in the poor house.

Today we understand much more about the universal laws that govern personal finances. I am careful not to fall into scarcity thinking, but also not to carelessly live outside my means as well. It can be a fine balance.

However over the last 12 months, I have watched as business owners became fearful of their financial situation and began to 'cut back' in places where they thought it would help their businesses. Unfortunately, this hurt them more than they may know.

Over the past seven years, I have been approached by hundreds of people who have found the latest, greatest ways to change your income within 90 days.

As they are all good people, many whom I respect greatly, I am always sorrowed when their enthusiasm meets a bitter end when the expense over a few months has exceeded the projected income.  (or close to it)

I am not going to go into a rant or be a critic because many of the ideas are good ones, offer healing, support, tools and the services we all need.

There are some people who will make a lit of money on some of the 'new ideas' out there.  Unfortunately like any business - they guy at the top makes a whole heck of a lot and the guy a few levels down pays more than he makes.

It is not much different than a CEO of a Hospital, or a large financial institution.  Many at the top make millions a year while employees make forth thousand. (1/20th the amount)

As a word of wisdom, even to myself, I offer the following:

The principle of business that brings the most satisfaction is that of service.  When we marry our talents and desires with a 'need' - and serve our fellow man with truth and integrity - we all win.

Leonardo da Vici said. "Make your work to be in keeping with your purpose". His work still serves mankind.

When we set ourselves looking for the next best opportunity that has our brainwaves blinking dollar signs, and we go after the opportunity with the idea of how much we will make instead of how this service will 'serve' someone, we have lost before we start.

Let our question first be "How will this business serve mankind, my community, my planet?"  The money my friends will follow most certainly.
