Notes From Mandie's Desk October 26th, 2007

Dear

This past fall I met with my mentor - and we had a very candid discussion about the success of small business.  We were trying to determine what the difference was between people who closed their businesses after a couple of years - tired out and broke - and those who built their businesses, profited and either continued or sold their businesses for a profit.

I also reflected on my experiences and looked at all the interviews I had done over the past 5 years of women in business.  Of all the articles I wrote for the Hamilton Spectator (between 100- 175) there are very few left in business now.  (Approximately 30%)

So we want to hear from you - what has - or would make help you become more successful?  Answer here.

Coaching Coach

We have had great results with the Coaching Coach so far!  We have visited Edmonton, Saskatoon and Calgary for a total of 4 2 hour coaching sessions that we offered at no cost!   We received comments like "I left inspired" - "I had several questions answered - it was great" and "What great ideas - I never had considered them and I know they will work to grow my business".

We will be continuing the free coaching for members and will be also adding tele-seminars for those who are unable to meet when we take the coaching coach to your town.

Did you know?
Small business is classified by under 100 employees.  Micro businesses are between 1-10 employees. Of all the micro businesses in Canada, most are home based.  Of all the micro businesses in Canada over 75% are the major contributor to the family income.   And the average micro business is in business for 13 years!  But for many of us - we feel that if we say we have a home based business - we are saying we are not successful.

What to say?
So, if someone asks you if you are a home based business - feel proud if you can say yes and maybe add a fact or two about micro businesses!  Then maybe add how you are glad you are able to save on commute - and the world is a greener place because of your choices!

Saskatoon Women in Business Expo
It was a good show and we met a lot of great women!  Did you know that some of the same challenges women in Saskatoon have are the same challenges as you are facing? But they also agree that the best advertising they have ever used os WORD OF MOUTH advertising.

WOMA
Word of mouth advertising is reported to be 10 times more effective than any other form of advertising.  In fact recently larger (mega) companies have begun employing people to bring up their brands in conversation.  Proctor and Gamble reportedly hired women to talk about Dawn dish detergent - and the results were measured.  Their sales in the areas where the women were hired - DOUBLED.

Are you OUT THERE - meeting others, and building relationships?  Are you talking about those you have met?  Why not get out to our dinner meetings - or coaching sessions?   Make sure you are using the simple tools you have available to you to get your name out there!

We hope you have an abundant and profitable week!
