Yesterday was Jaques Cousteau's birthday - and for those living in the Calgary area, we are beginning to wonder if soon we will be spending our days under water! I have never seen so much rain in one week!

Last week I gave  a presentation at the SOHO Event in Calgary and presented - How to take your business from here----to----there.  It surprised me how much great feedback I received from that event - and so I have decided to share some of the ideas I spoke about there in the coming weeks newsletters.  So please take time to read the short articles I have included below. Have you ever got up on Monday morning and wondered what you were doing wrong?  Sometimes business growth is more about activity and less about results - meaning that the growth is gradual.  We do not often notice it.  Focus on activity not immediate results.  And remember too that there are also the seasonal adjustments we really do not want to acknowledge.  As much as we look forward to summer, we also dread the financial slowdown.  (Yes we still have bills to pay - rent, phone, loans and other fixed payments.)

So how can we take our businesses from here to there?

There is no magic formula folks.  But there are a few things you can do that will ensure you stay on track and continue to grow.

1. Build a data base.  If you have not started one yet - please do.  80% of your PROFITS will come from 20 % of your clients.  It can be as simple as an excel spreadsheet with the manes and contact information on it.  You need to keep in touch with your clients regularly. 

How?

Newsletters. Cards. Letters in the mail. Cards in the mail. Phone calls.  People do not care how much you know until they know how much you care.  Once a week you should do SOMETHING.  ANYTHING to keep in touch.

What ever way you choose - do something to stay in touch with your current clients and learn how to build relationships with potential ones!

#2 Focus on income generation.  Yes drop what you are doing right now.  What have you done today to make money.  Have you made a phone call, sent a bill out, announced a new product, created a bundle, formed an alliance, planned a workshop, taken a few minutes to plan your marketing for next month?

As business owners we often forget about income generation. However, nothing ever happens until a sale is made.  So all the business of business really needs to be delegated out for someone else to do.  And you need to focus on income generation.

Ask yourself what could I do today that would make a few extra dollars?  (now you see where the data base comes in handy!)

How about running a teleclass or workshop?  Or perhaps you can put a great tips list together that educated people about how to solve a problem - and then also recommend your product.  Or conduct a survey!

Do you have products sitting around that could be bundled with others and sold?  These are all ideas that can generate some extra dollars right now.

If you do something daily to generate income - it not only becomes habit, it snowballs.  Next thing you know you will be hiring more people to sell your stuff!

For years I have heard the term "Affiliate Marketing" but really had no idea how to use it.  Let me tell you how simple it really is!

Affiliate marketing allows you to promote other's products and be paid for it.  So for example, if you advocate using less paper - you could offer a paperless fax service to  your clients by promoting a service that would pay you for every person who decided to use it.

How?  Once you sing up as an affiliate or partner with them, they will send you a banner ad and a link to use, that will track people to your account number. Every time a sale is made - your account is credited.  The company may have minimum payouts, however when you reach that payout, you will be mailed a cheque.

With very little effort you or your web master can place this link on your web site or in your email - and you can begin promoting products or service you believe in and get paid for it.  Here is an example of an affiliate ad.

Now it may not seem like a lot that you get paid to refer a service like this - however - every few pennies counts.  You may make $10 or $100.00 a month - without having to do too much at all.  In fact it may pay your hosting fee!

So think about it.  What services do you use regularly - that you could be promoting to others and get paid for doing so.  This is one way your web site could be earning you a little money here and there - instead of always costing you money.

As kids, many of us watched with our imaginations wide open as George Jetson packaged up his car into a suitcase and got on the moving walkway to work.  He talked to Jane via TV monitor, and Jane worked hard pushing buttons all day to create meals and even had a robot vacuum.  Well ladies we are there! 

There are robot vacuums. instant ovens, and you can teach a class hundreds of miles away on your computer - and everyone else can watch their screens and listen to you on the phone. And it really is as easy as pushing a button.

Have you ever considered meeting with a client to show them your documents or teach about a product - online?  We do it here at Roaring Women all the time.  And it is no longer something only the technically savvy do.

If you have not yet thought about the value of teaching a class online - I would suggest you do so. It sets you apart as an expert.  You can teach about your product or service - to one or many at a time.

Teaching online will save you room rental fees, gas, and it is easier to get bums in seats when people do not have to go anywhere.

Finally.  It is ready.  Do you have something that you want listed in the store?  If you are a silver or gold member, we will list at least one product on your profile that will link directly to the store for purchase - ass well ass be in the store for visitors to see and purchase!

If you are ready to list something in the store - here are the procedures:

1. Send and email to :store@roaringwomen.com
2. Include a full description of the product.
3. Include a jpg or gif image of the product 200x200 pixels or smaller
4. Price
5. Shipping charges if any

Bronze members may also list something in the store but it will not be listed on their profile.

All store orders will be paid out at 80% of the cost of goods sold.  This will cover administration and MC or VISA fees.  All cheques will be mailed monthly.  You must ship the product from your location.
