Dear Roaring Women
For those of you have talked to me over the summer - I have adopted the saying "I am up to my eyes in alligators"!  It has been busy - and I have been busy with all kinds of administrative challenges - and wondered when will it all end?   So thank you to Monica for the picture you see below - which says it all!

So - are you up to you eyes in alligators? (utyeia)  Well I have learned something very interesting.  If you are not 'utyeia' chances are your business is not growing as it should! I have learned - if it is not one thing it is another - so to speak.  Last year I was solving much different problems than I am solving this year.  And two years ago we were at another place again.  
 
As we have growth spurts there will be different issues that will challenge you about your business.  And until you solve an issue - you guessed it - that issue will come back to bite you over and over!  So if you are 'utyeia' - be grateful - your business is growing!
 
Recurring Issues that Hamper Business Growth 
 
There are two reccurring issues that I see that most businesses have.  One is their inability to contact or keep in touch with their current or past clients because they have NO DATA BASE  - or a poor data base.  ( you will hear that word over and over in the next few months)  I
 
It is much easier to keep a client or get a client to buy a second time when you supply great products and services than it is to get a new one.  You can use your data base to send out newsletters, letters, cards, thank-you coupons, phone calls, invite to customer appreciation events and announce new products or refer another great business!  (Answer our survey question on newsletters)
 
The next issue many have is that they do not know how to network effectively - or they don't network at all! 
 
FACT:  WORD OF MOUTH ADVERTISING is 50 x more effective than any kind of advertising.  And the best way to get referred - is to be OUT THERE  - getting noticed. 
 
Take a look at the survey section below to see what most business people are NOT doing.  These are the things that will get them noticed - and referred.   So if word of mouth advertising is more effective by far than any other sort of advertising what do you NEED to do?Ask how you can help refer another
  • Ask people to refer you
  • Send thank you's and gifts to those who do refer you
  • Give away great information - with your coupon attached
  • submit articles to the web and print publications
  • Get noticed - give away things at events
  • Volunteer
  • Win Friends by helping out - pay it forward
  • Speak at events

NEED TO KNOW


You can lead a horse to water... you know the expression!  We are constantly looking for your feedback on member benefits and what we offer.  Many of you have let us know you have benefitted from membership in the following ways:

  • Met a good contact /alliance
  • Met someone who referred you to another person or family member
  • Formed a supportive friendship
  • Received mentorship 
  • Heard a great idea at a meeting or through the newsletter that you used
  • Sold something or got a new client 
  • Heard from someone who read your profile
  • Contacted by the media who saw you on RW site
  • Were interviewed on the RW radio show
  • Submitted a tip that was posted on the site

These are just a few of the things we have received emails about recently!  For those of you who feel that you are not getting enough from your membership - please consider doing the following:

  • Attend a meeting
  • contact another member
  • access the general postings and send a message
  • submit an article or tips
  • ask us for help
  • use your benefits in the member area

Our job is not to supply you with business!  Our job is to make sure you have the infomation you need to grow your business - provide opportunities to network and connect with others and give you a push or encouragement when you need it.  But we cannot get all your clients for you or run your business!  

So take a deep breath and make the decision to build your business - or close up shop.  Either way we will support your decision. 

Remember you determine what success is.  Attitude, persistence and willingness to make the effort is what will determine if you reach your goals!

SURVEY SAYS.....VOICE YOUR OPINION


Last newsletter we posted a survey asking what you did this week to promote your business - and here are the results!  (very interesting!)

75% of respondents made phone calls
75% sent e-mail promotions
50% networked
25% met someone for coffee
25% Sent our cards or mailed a brochure

The most interesting fact about this survey is that although phone calls and email promotions were sent out - no one did any of the following! 

  • Submitted artilces to the web
  • Submitted articles to a newspaper or publication
  • Created and handed out 'tips' sheets
  • Sent out a press release
  • Gave a presentation

And these are very important things to be doing - and most of them are FREE. These are easy ways for you to get more publicity, recognition and to become and expert in your field - and we all know that experts attract potential customers!

This weeks survey is about newsletters.  What a hot topic!  People are very divided on what they think about e- newsletters and pronted newsletters - so why not tell us what you think.  4 Simple questions - voice your opinion today!
