Ethical Business Practices and the "New Age" of Business!

Over the last six months I have received phone calls almost weekly from two different businesses.  They are recorded messages and begin like this:

"This is an important call about your credit card - please do not hang up.  If you would like to significantly reduce the interest on your credit card..."

Then there is this one:

"This is an important call about the warranty on your vehicle.  Your vehicle warranty is near expiry.  To avoid expensive repair bills in the future you must extend your warranty..."

In each case you are instructed to push one for more information.

In both cases the recording plays on the fears of the consumer to get customers.  The second offer in fact has nothing to do with your own vehicle warranty.  They are just guessing!  The business knows for certain that over 50% of the population has a vehicle that is over four years old and just hope that the person who answers the phone is one of them.

Then they sell you an extended warranty that many dealerships or garages do not necessarily honour or that require you to pay upfront and then you collect the refund for the service from the warranty company.

This method of getting a customer may be effective today but my question is, "Is it ethical?"

Business is changing - and for the most part, women entrepreneurs are on the leading edge of that change.  We are combining our personal vision and passion into our business.  (How is business changing?  Have you heard of Zentrepreneurism?)

We know that keeping a customer is better (and easier) than always searching for a new one.  But most of all we believe in educating and serving the customer - because it is what we love to do.  When you love the business you are in, it is much easier to serve first and the money will follow.

Business in way, has gone "New Age".  If you are you interested in learning more about how business is changing and how you can take advantage of these great new changes- check out this great event!

In the meantime, I just wanted to congratulate all of you and encourage you to persevere in the persuit of your dreams.  I know that if any one of you calls me, it will not to be to trick me into buying your products - but it will be with a heart to serve and make my life better.

And I hope we can continue to do the same for you!

Mandie and the Roaring Women Team

Mandie the Media Maven?

I never really considered myself a "media darling" until someone asked me how often I get calls from reporters?  When I began compiling the number of articles and appearances - I surprised even myself!

"Why don't you teach us how you did it" was their next question.

I can honestly say it began by luck and continued with effort.  A $750 coaching session and several years of experience has taught me a lot of tricks of the trade.  And I am happy to share them with you!

Over the next 6 months I will be scheduling a 3 day training sessions in several areas to teach a small number of peple who want to learn how to get and keep the attention of the media.

When you learn how to do this - you can become one of their sources for information and this can be good for both of you!  The next training session is in Vancouver - you can read more here.

PS. As I was putting the courses together - the Globe and Mail called me for another interview.  Interesting!  Now they care coming to me without me even sending releases!

You said....

I couldn't agree more!
I too have attended free events that dangled little pieces of informaton with promises of big rewards if I bought the next session that was often priced over $1,000.00.  NO MORE!

I have put together a very valuable event that will gove you all the inforation you need up front - along with workbooks, follow-up webinars and some great gifts that you can use!  Learn more here.  Early bird pricing on now!

Changing careers and tweaking businesses!

As times and economies change - we too have to change with the times!  If you have been in business more than 5 years you already know this.  Busines has cycles and we must be prepared for the next one.

People on average change their careers as many as 5 times in their lifetime.  Just the same, often a business that starts out as one thing might morphe into another.   Sometimes it is becuase of need and other times it is to refresh our energy and renew pur enthusiasm.

Kimberley Bennett, one of our members in Edmonton has recently made that switch.  She has closed her veryy successful clinic to make the switch to business coaching. For Kimberley - this was more of a morphe than a switch.  After taking the coaching training we offered last fall she has already begun to build a successful coaching business.  Congratulations Kimberley!

Have you made a significant switch lately?  Tell us about it!

Kimberley also has a building for sale in Edmonton - just in case you know anyone who might be interested!

Networking and Network Marketing - Can they exist in the same room?

When I first began networking I was amazed at how many different businesses were out there!  I met store owners, consultants, bookkeepers, play thereapy trainers, authors and hundreds of other business owners.  Intermingled were independent representatives from financial services agencies, insurance agencies and even mortgage brokers.

And then I met the Network Marketer.  My first thought was that these were expert networkers.  Then I realized these were members of organizations that marketed products and services through 'Direct sales' - or person to person sales.  They often work from home and along with selling products they often are looking for 'recruits' or people to 'put into their business' and sell 'under' them.

Many studies have shown that Network Marketing is the way of the future because it can offer people multiple streams of income and offers even the most inexperienced people who want to get into business a foothold into the business arena.  Some of the training programs that are offered by Network Marketing Companies are very good too!

Over the last several years I have heard many people complain about "Network Marketers".  They are often accused of being involved in a pyramid scheme or of trying to recruit everyone they meet into their businesses.

Personally - I think we have a lot to learn from each other.  Network Marketing brings out wonderful information and can set great examples for traditional business owners.  Learning to duplicate ourselves and use systems are only two examples.  Traditional Networkers on the other hand can help Network marketers to understand the anatomy of a sale.  The anatomy of a sale really is about how to build relationships and foster trust before selling something.

What we all need to learn is that networking is not about recruiting, selling, forming cliques or groups that belittle others, or one upmanship.  Networking is and always be about building relationships and referring others.

This fall - examine what it is you are expecting from networking.  Are you trying ot recruit, sell or 'get' something?  Or are you building relationships and paying it forward?

Businesses cannot survive without selling a product. You can have 15 people in your business but if they do not sell anything it is not a business - network marketing or other.  Ongoing sales are not made without creating relationships.  Networking is the bridge we build - business to business.
