Over
the last six months I have received phone calls
almost weekly from two different businesses.
They are recorded messages and begin like this:
"This
is an important call about your credit card
- please do not hang up. If you would
like to significantly reduce the interest on
your credit card..."
Then
there is this one:
"This
is an important call about the warranty on your
vehicle. Your vehicle warranty is near
expiry. To avoid expensive repair bills
in the future you must extend your warranty..."
In
each case you are instructed to push one for
more information.
In
both cases the recording plays on the fears
of the consumer to get customers.
The second offer in fact has nothing to do with
your own vehicle warranty. They are just
guessing! The business knows for certain
that over 50% of the population has a vehicle
that is over four years old and just hope that
the person who answers the phone is one of them.
Then
they sell you an extended warranty that many
dealerships or garages do not necessarily honour
or that require you to pay upfront and then
you collect the refund for the service from
the warranty company.
This
method of getting a customer may be effective
today but my question is, "Is it ethical?"
Business
is changing - and for the most part, women
entrepreneurs are on the leading edge of that
change. We are combining our personal
vision and passion into our business.
(How is business changing? Have you heard
of Zentrepreneurism?)
We
know that keeping a customer is better (and
easier) than always searching for a new one.
But most of all we believe in educating and
serving the customer - because it is what we
love to do. When you love the business
you are in, it is much easier to serve first
and the money will follow.
Business
in way, has gone "New Age".

In
the meantime, I just wanted to congratulate
all of you and encourage you to persevere in
the persuit of your dreams. I know
that if any one of you calls me, it will not
to be to trick me into buying your products
- but it will be with a heart to serve and make
my life better.
And
I hope we can continue to do the same for you!
