Getting the right mortgage means taking the time to understand each situation on an individual basis, to asses the needs and to use the expertise and knowledge of the entire team to help clients make the right mortgage decision. Karen Monteiro is a mom, a business owner, a community volunteer, a pet owner and a wife/sister/daughter. My first thought when I spoke to her was "Wow, that's a lot to take on" and it is but Karen is up for the challenge: in fact I think Karen thrives on challenge.
Karen has been in the real estate and mortgage business for twelve years and has owned her own company since 2004. It's a husband and wife team and it works very well for this family of five. Karen takes great interest in the lives of her family and extends her caring personality further out to her community. It's important to Karen to ensure that her company gives back to the community in many ways including charitable donations and attending charity functions.
I asked Karen which part of her business she enjoyed the most and, while she hesitated because she obviously enjoys it all, she confessed her favourite clients are the first time home buyers. " I like their enthusiasm, their energy and the teaching piece," noting that first time buyers are usually not well educated in the financial piece of the home purchase. That's where Karen lights up.
Karen's interest in teaching has taken on a broader scope within her business. She is certified to teach by the Independent Mortgage Brokers Association and will begin teaching soon. She also makes it a point to train her agents well so that they will be successful. Karen says very emphatically "We offer so much training to our staff that the only reason they would not be successful is because they don't want to be."
I asked Karen why she joined Roaring Women and she was quick with her reply. Karen is making an investment for the future: cultivating well rounded children, creating a supportive team and community, through her teaching and by joining networking groups like Roaring Women. "I went to the Cambridge meeting and met Mandie. Her energy was electric and I liked what she had to say. " She joined right away and hopes to learning more about marketing and networking. You will Karen, you will.
Between her teaching and her continued learning and her passion to offer her lessons to her staff and her clients I am struck by the integrity Karen holds for herself within a competitive and, sometimes, confusing financial market.
