When Amanda Skakun’s day care provider gave her some Arbonne samples to try, Amanda took them home but never used them. Once her day care provider told her that she would no longer be available she was curious as to why.
The answer was that in six months, she had replaced her income with Arbonne. Now Amanda was more interested in trying the product for herself, so she was given more samples to try. Loving the products, and inspired by the success of her day care provider, in July 2006 Amanda decided to became an Arbonne Independent Consultant. For seventeen years, she has been a financial systems analyst for the provincial government. She is working hard to replace her income with Arbonne, and has recently cut back from working full time with the government to four days per week, due to her Arbonne success.
A people person, Amanda likes to look at the big picture, not just the small details. Her day-to-day job is very structured, where she is basically “trading work for money” and they control her time. She likes the idea of working as an Independent Consultant because of the options available. She can choose when and where to work, with whom, and can control her own schedule.
With two children at home she is very busy and a consummate ‘time-juggler’ with a great calendar. Her husband is very supportive and they both understand that sacrifices made now will pay off later; short-term sacrifice for the long-term gain. As she states, she wants to be able to do with and for her family the things that they want to do – “I don’t want to have to say we can’t afford it.”
Arbonne was very new in B.C. when she started and the leadership that is there now was not available at that time. In April 2007 she decided to attend their conference and was encouraged by how successful people were. She began to follow their training advice and her business started to grow. As well as selling products, she says Arbonne is a self-development company.
She found great leaders there who work hard to develop other great leaders. She says, “It is really a business about helping other women have success, and you in turn will have success. There is no “I” in this business – it is about working as a team.” She teaches how to use skin care, about health and wellness, and how someone can save time and money by buying direct at cost!
She sees it changing peoples lives every day, and says that it makes her feel great when she helps someone who began their meeting feeling blah, but leaves looking and feeling great – regardless of whether they have made a purchase. She is now teaching and training her own team and says that a system is in place that works.
She enjoys teaching, as she is able to help people and observe how they grow and succeed. Amanda is a good leader for her team and tries to enforce her own positive self-affirmation by listening to tapes and informative reading.
She believes that “those who are successful do the things that others don’t want to do or won’t do.” One of the Arbonne recognition awards is taking possession of a new Mercedes Benz.
Amanda’s present goal is to reach the level of Regional Vice President and have her own Mercedes by December 31 2008. She wants to be able to replace her income and leave her present full-time job. This is just one of the self-affirmations that she repeats to herself daily in her quest for long-term success.
