"Most importantly, I want change to be sustainable," said Hammond. “People often go to workshops and presentations and get excited about how to implement change. But for some, that is as far as it goes. To be of maximum value, the strategies for change must be long lasting, so that companies can turn their attention to growing their business. I identify and work through challenges that teams faces and I bring a very positive change perspective. I assist organizations to build, grow, change and connect.”
Alberta’s high demand for workers and booming economy has lead to lots of movement in the workforces between companies. In this ever-changing atmosphere, workplace issues are often placed on hold, observes Hammond, as companies cope with the rapid business growth or frequent change. Gradually, businesses face the struggle to build teams as employees continue to job leap.
Charmaine’s first career was working as a correctional officer in correctional facilities and managing a treatment facility for young offenders. As a registered social worker, her passion for conflict management was finely honed, preparing her to help organizations solve problems ranging from workplace violence prevention to helping employees develop personal and professional resiliency.
“I use the analogy of a rubber ball when helping teams build resilience. A prepared person bounces back when confronted with challenges,” said Hammond who brings 20 years experience as program developer, trainer, facilitator and mediator to her consultations.
A frequent keynote speaker at provincial and national conferences held by such groups as the College of Social Workers, and Family Mediation Canada, Charmaine offers winning strategies for organizational effectiveness through respectful workplace initiatives. Human Resources’ reports show that people leave well-paid jobs if the workplace is not healthy or they do not feel supported.
Hammond receives a great deal of satisfaction showing people how to achieve a sense of purpose and extend kindness in the workplace. Solving and reducing workplace conflicts also enables companies to thrive and grow the business.
Hammond’s extensive client list includes government, non-profit organizations, health care facilities, and industry (oil sands). In future, she wants to assist more small businesses that face workplace challenges but have fewer staff and resources.
A proven community leader, she co-founded the Northern Lights Community Mediation Society and the Plamondon/Wandering River Community Resource Society. She belongs to several professional groups ranging from the Canadian Association of Professional Speakers, Alberta Arbitration & Mediation Society to the and the Writers Guild of Alberta.
Utilizing her creativity, Charmaine is currently writing two resource books for companies seeking ways to instil resiliency with underlying kindness in their work places. Living what she speaks about, Charmaine and her dog Toby are now visitors to patients in hospitals. “It is incredible to see people’s spirits lift and eyes sparkle when Toby greets them on visiting day.”
“It’s important to return to values such as kindness,” said Hammond who credits her philosophy to her parents. “Mom and Dad always taught us to give back to others. My colleague refers to this as volunteering from the heart rather than the mind.” |
