When Erin Duke explored the daycare options available to her for her baby daughter, she couldn’t find a facility in Edmonton that she felt provided a safe, competently staffed environment. So Erin bought 2 existing daycare facilities and applied her own professionalism to turning them into viable options for other Edmonton families looking for exceptional daycare.
Erin has a son who’s 15 years old now and she referred to his daycare facility as a benchmark of comparison – during his time, child care workers were of highly dedicated. But now, with more children than there are child-care spaces in Edmonton, many of today’s childcare workers are not at the same level of dedication and so Erin saw the need and Elite Services was born.
“I got into daycare so I could be a working mom and still have a safe environment for my daughter. Children thrive on the social aspects of daycare and the ones who go to daycare are far ahead, both mentally and socially, when they begin kindergarten”.
“My biggest hurdle has been staffing. I’ve been a professional employment recruiter – that’s what separates successful businesses – how well you recruit”. “Between the 2 centres, I spent all my time hiring and training and I now want to move beyond this function and actually run my next company”. Erin grew up in Vancouver and came to Edmonton 12 years ago. “Edmonton is now my home”.
Her education in Business and Insurance and Risk Management led to her first job with an insurance company, followed by moving on to become a commercial insurance broker, before buying those 2 daycare centres. Since Erin’s daughter is now in kindergarten, she’s able to move ahead to that dream of truly running and building her own company. She’s currently looking to sell at least one of her daycare centres and Erin has found her new dream – Talk Fusion.

Erin says “I read ‘Rich Dad, Poor Dad’ 4 years ago and it changed my life! The whole idea is that if you stop working, you still have income – passive income”. “The only way to build bigger is to build smarter. You, as an individual, have a ceiling – you can only do so much business. My goal, with my partner (partner in everything I do) as my teammate, is to move ahead to continue doubling for each of us each month.
Erin proudly states, “This product is so unique and has so many uses. My partner is a realtor and he uses it for virtual tours as well as for selling to other realtors. Physical therapists and chiropractors can use it for live demonstrations of exercises, kids at university can send video messages home, businesses can video their product or service”. “It’s easy enough for my 5 year old daughter to make a video, which she loves to do, then send it to her Grandmother and Grandfather”.
