Media: straight to the Point

Waiting around for success to come to him wasn’t in the books for Devin Tuinstra, owner of FloatPoint Media Inc. Since the young age of 4, this mastermind has been on the computer teaching himself the skills he now uses in everyday life.
While growing up, he moved almost every other year. “I was a farm kid, so it’s kind of funny that I now run a technologically based company” he says with a laugh.
But the success he has made for himself at the young age of 22 is no laughing matter. It has been 2 years since he started the company and things are moving along smoothly. He enjoys the challenge of something new to work on every day.
“Today I am working on a website, tomorrow I may be designing a cover for a magazine.” He tells me with great enthusiasm.
Because Devin is both a manager and a developer, he is better able than any other web company in the Hamilton area to understand what the client desires. He doesn’t waste time relaying information back and forth between his development team and the client which he uses to his full advantage.
At 15, he began attending night courses to learn web programming at a local College and soon put his newly learned skills to work. By the end of high school, while most students are getting ready for post secondary school, Devin had already been working for a company out of Detroit on contract for three years.
“I didn’t see a need for post secondary school considering I had already been successful in creating twenty websites by the end of high school” he tells me. After graduating, he began working full time on contract with many web companies in Canada and the United States.
One day while he was working on a project, his manager contacted him to check on his progress. Devin became curious of the manager’s responsibilities and initiated a discussion with him. He soon realized that he had been managing his own projects for almost 4 years on his own. This led Devin to the decision to start his own business,
“So I spoke with a few of my well respected business colleagues as well my live-in girlfriend and I decided that I have what it takes to step out on my own and be successful” he explains to me. And thus, FloatPoint Media Inc. was born. Today he has 5 programmers and 7 designers on his team.
When I asked him how important a website is to a growing company he informed me that it is essential for a small company to have a website in order to be credible in today’s world. And he takes websites one step further by offering online marketing through search engine optimization and advertising, which helps emerging companies grow to their full potential. “Not only do we offer online marketing, we also offer media CD Rom’s, 3D animation and many other media driven ideas. We’ve even airbrushed for a company in the past” he tells me.
And now at twenty-two, he has worked with and has ties with almost all of the web development and media companies in the Hamilton area.
“All signs point to FloatPoint Media growing continuously over the next few years and I’m looking forward to our success!” He says with pride. |
