What's in a name?
Living la Vida Fearless Coaching Services

What's in a name? Baby name books, personalized monograms, titles attached to names, letters and initals...What's so important about names anyway? There is some heritage involved with a name. Just think of the history that comes with a name like James the third or Mrs. Washington the first.

Janet Auty-Carlisle, chief coaching officer of Living la Vida Fearless Coaching Services, spent a lot of time thinking about the name of her company before choosing Living la Vida Fearless. "It's catchy for sure" says Janet "but that's not why I picked this name."

"We are living in a time of so many choices, so many options and opportunities and so much fear as well. There's freedom and there's fear and people seem to be really confused about which one to pick."

People have told Jan that's she's kinda weird as if that's a bad thing. "It's true I'm a little eccentric and I'm ok with that. I do think differently, I do try to look at things from many angles, I don't make up judgements or attachements to things very quickly. I believe everything, absolutely everything and everyone is doing exactly what they are supposed to do. When they're ready for a change they'll find the way to put that into practise if that's what they truly want." When the student is ready the teacher appears.

Jan's career path was never a clear set path. After turning down a scholarship to law school she tried on many different careers including retail management, day care owner, financier in the banking industry and finally found her niche in the relocation industry. "I loved this job. I got to meet new people every day, learn about other parts of the world and help people settle into their new homes." Jan never thought she'd be doing anything else after having the chance to buy into the company. Jan tells me: her life was about to take a very different turn along her path: one nobody saw coming and was so life changing Jan says she's not the same person anymore.

"When I was 40 I was diagnosed with early onset Parkinson's disease. I started on the meds right away. They made me dis-oriented and unable to drive. I had to give up my business. I didn't know what Parkinson's was so I began organizing workshops and conferences with other people with Parkinson's to learn more. It was a rude awakening. Think Michael J. Fox and Muhammed Ali....that was my fate. This is an incurable disease. Suddenly a lot of things didn't seem important anymore. We spent our children's education funds on travel and other things that we wanted to do as a family before I became too disabled. "

Unbelievably Jan did not get a second opinion for seven years and only then because there was a new clinic opening up near her town and the neurologist was willing to see her. Jan and her friends had always wondered why she was "doing so well" when all her friends with Parkinson's were obviously deteriorating physically. "My husband and I walked into his office, sat down and prepared for the worst: The neurolgist was confused and asked me why I thought I had Parkinson's. Now I was confused, seven years of meds, being treated by the top neurologist in Canada....that was enough proof for me. So I asked him "What makes you think I don't have PD? "

The neurologist pointed to the four red flags of a diagnosis of PD: Jan did not have any of them.

Stunned and confused Jan and her husband left the office with a plan to wean herself off the meds over the next year. "The good news was I didn't have Parkinson's disease. The bad news was I didn't have Parkinson's disease. " "It's been a roller coaster of emotions. I won the lottery for sure, my friends still have PD and that saddens me. I've also been angry, grateful, confused, depressed and bitter. I choose grateful now. "

Finding hersellf without a career after this misdiagnosis Jan began working with a life coach who helped her uncover her own future career as a lifestyle leadership coach. Back to school at 48 and loving it Jan thrived in this new environment. "Coaching fills my soul. I love seeing people getting to the point where they realize that life is full of possibilities and they are allowed to do what they love: living la vida fearless."

Former clients of Living la Vida Fearless have said of Jan "you are a masterful coach. I want to thank you for helping me uncover my passions" and "Jan I can't tell you how much I appreciate how working with you has changed my way of doing things. I no longer believe I'm not able to do things I want to do. Thank you!"

"I've been given a second and third and fourth chance at life" says Jan.

"This is my path, this is my journey, this is what I've been called here to do." The passion is obvious and Jan is ready to help you uncover your passion. Ready to live la vida fearless? Contact Jan for a discovery session to see if coaching is for you.

In closing Jan says "I do what scares me. If I'm asked to do something that makes my stomach flip then that's the thing I go for. That fear is the elephant in the room and I'm the elephant trainer. Don't let fear stop you from doing what your heart yearns for. Come try a discovery session with me and uncover your new choices!"
