Karen Hannigan has found her perfect job. She has always loved fashion. She felt very strongly that being in a business where you were in control of your day was really the ideal career. She is also a mother of three children, whom she parents full-time.
Understandably, when Karen discovered Fifth Avenue Collection, it seemed like a match made in heaven.
Born and raised in Edmonton, Karen worked in fashion retailing during and after high school, but when she realized that it didn’t offer quite the earning potential she would like, she moved into a law office as a legal assistant. Her sister, Debbie helped her make this move.
Debbie had managed to secure herself a similar position, despite a lack of qualifications, and when she proved herself more than capable, her employers decided to give Karen a go too!
Karen stayed in this field for over 15 years, working herself up to a senior level where she was even called upon to open a new office and act as administrator while continuing the workload of a legal assistant. However, when she returned to work after having her first child, she found that the inflexibility and the stress were too much. When she had her second child, she decided to take the plunge and stay home as a full-time Mom.
Again, Karen has her sister to thank for helping her become involved in Fifth Avenue Collection. Karen had originally been exploring another direct sales opportunity, but when she had an in-home party her sister was so excited that she signed up with that company.
Karen decided to forego that particular opportunity, but then when her sister had a Fifth Avenue Collection show, Karen realized very quickly that Fifth Avenue Collection was definitely a much better fit for her. Karen had previously been introduced to Fifth Avenue Collection and even hosted a show many years prior and seeing the jewellery again at her sister’s show renewed her interest and the potential career opportunity as well.
Now Karen, Debbie and their mother are all involved in direct sales, and loving it. In fact, while Karen was still in high school, her mother became involved with an alternative health and wellness company. The changes that were quickly evident in her health and her general outlook on life were so positive that they were an inspiration. Karen credits this for her enthusiasm for this particular career path.
About six months after joining Fifth Avenue Collection, Karen and her family moved to Calgary. She was home with two small children, pregnant with a third, and in a city where she knew no-one, but that wasn’t enough to daunt her! With typical energy and enthusiasm she went about building herself a new business in Calgary.
Fifth Avenue Collection is a family owned business by the Bulters from Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. The jewellery is handmade using the finest gemstones from around the world along with the stunning Austrian crystal.
The easiest part about this great company is that the jewellery sells itself – Karen has said many times over to her customers that “This jewellery has a way of talking to you, so make sure you get those pieces you can’t live without as we never know how long they will be available!”
Karen has been bringing this incredible jewellery into the homes of her hostesses for just over 5 years and they keep inviting her back for more exclusive limited edition designs. She knew right from the start that there were also great career opportunities in helping others like herself build a fabulous business.
Karen is a Sales Leader with Fifth Avenue Collection and holds monthly meetings with her team to encourage them to “think big” and “go for the stars”. She has already earned many prizes and awards within the company, including being in the ‘Tremendous Twenty’ in the company’s monthly Glitter Magazine. .
And the best part is that she will be beautifully accessorized while she does it!
