Kelly Post
Taking It to the Community
A few years ago, Kelly Post was a sick woman. Now, she’s the leading retailer of health products in her community of Beamsville, Ontario.

“When I was sick, I sought out health care after finding no solution from modern medicine. Since I couldn’t find the natural products that I needed locally, I had to go into Hamilton or St. Catharines. I remember asking my husband, before he went on a run down to Florida, if I could open a health store. When he returned five days later I had already leased the space, and the rest is history,” Kelly says.

The lack of local sources was the driving force behind Kelly’s decision to open The Health Post in 1998. And she hasn’t looked back since. Her health is fine and business is booming.

The Health Post services a broad range of clients from those who want to improve their lifestyle by using natural products, to those who have ailments. “I get a lot of business by word of mouth and I also work with two practitioners in the area.

They know what it is I do, and if they have a client who needs specific products I ensure I stock those products here at the store. I get some people coming from as far away as New York state since they don’t have certain products available to them in the U.S.,” Kelly explains.

Kelly’s natural products include vitamins, minerals, supplements, natural and organic foods, herbal teas in bulk or bags, in-store packaged bulk food, personal care products, nutritional dog and cat food, chemical-free cleaning products, weight loss products, aromatherapy products, beeswax candles, a large line of wheat- and gluten-free foods, sports supplements, and herbs (in capsule or dried form).

“Not only do I provide products, but I also provide information and education about nutrition as well as the products I sell here,” says Kelly. “It’s amazing how many people don’t know about proper diet and cleansing, as well as all the chemicals and toxins they’re putting into their bodies, whether it’s from the food they ingest or the environment we live in.”

To make sure her knowledge and information is current, Kelly is constantly taking nutrition and supplement courses.

And as of February 2005, Kelly and The Health Post mark a new milestone—she has just moved her store into a historical building and has added two commercial units to rent out in the same building.
