Are you your own worst enemy?
So many of us are held back from living our full potential by feelings of insecurity, fear and shame to
name only a few. We allow these feelings to control our lives and determine our destiny. They are major
barriers to fulfillment and success and it is time to make a change.
How are fear, doubt or insecurity undermining your success? Do you want to live at the mercy of these incorrect and corrosive feelings?
Choose self-respect and self- love instead of self-deprecation. A truly successful life absolutely requires a
healthy loving relationship with you. Love is the most powerful energy there is and treating yourself
with love and respect sends a powerful message. I am worth it, I deserve it and I can achieve it!
We are taught from a young age not to think or even worse speak to highly of ourselves. It is conceited,
selfish and egotistical. This idea has deep roots for many people and it makes self-appreciation a
challenging prospect. Loving and believing in yourself does not mean that you have to be a braggart. It is
not about arrogance or conceit but rather a quiet calm security within you. It is getting in touch with
your own unique and special light and allowing it to radiate outward.
Some tips to get you started:
1. Your beliefs about yourself are powerful and you must first identify them in order to change
them. Take a look at how fear, guilt, shame, doubt, insecurity or others may be playing a role in
your life and frustrating your efforts at success. This isn’t easy and requires some introspection at
the very least. Thousands of people sabotage themselves without even knowing they are doing it. I
encourage you to really embrace this process, as it is essential in unlocking your barriers to
success. If it is too daunting on your own, get help. Find a coach, counselor, therapist, belief repatterning
practitioner, EFT practitioner or any of the many, many resources available to help you
in your process.
2. Don’t get stuck in the above process. You need to be aware but not dwell. You don’t want to give
any more energy to those negative feelings but to simply be aware of their presence so you may
release them. Then, change the focus of your energy to the positive and infuse your life with its
energy.
3. Acknowledge yourself for what you have accomplished and created in your life. The obstacles
you have overcome and the contributions you are making that you might not think about normally.
Give credit where credit is due. In this case it is due to you!
4. What do you appreciate about yourself? What are your good qualities? What do people like about
you, seek in you, rely on you for?
5. What skills do you have that make you good at what you do?
6. Learn to speak nicely to yourself. If you wouldn’t say it to a friend don’t say it to yourself.
7. Take about 10 of the qualities and characteristics you came up with from above and write them
neatly on a nice piece of paper. Put this somewhere that you will see it and read it on a regular
basis. Take time everyday to go over your list and even add things to it if they come to you.
8. Remember that you, like every other sentient being deserves love and respect.
